It has often been said that employees ‘don’t leave companies, they leave managers.’ While there is no doubt that the quality of managers plays an important role in employee performance, there is quite a bit of debate on what constitutes a ‘good manager.’ Maritz Research, a leader in the area of employee motivation and engagement, conducted a national study of 1000 employees to better understand the qualities of both effective and ineffective managers. From this research, six types of managers emerged, representing varying degrees of effectiveness.
Hear Rick Garlick, Director of Consulting and Strategic Implementation, talk about six manager types and their impact on both the employee and customer experience. These include:
- The Caring Mentor
- The Respected Professional
- The Taskmaster
- The Likeable Loser
- The Win-At-All Costs Manager
- The Gladhander
